Creating a Global Standard for Talent Management Processes

The Client

The client is a global mining corporation with over 24,000 employees in several countries and growing.

The Challenge

The company was undertaking the enormous task of standardizing its performance management and incentive programs. What they wanted was globally consistent performance management and compensation planning programs in order to increase results-oriented behaviors, improve planning, and create efficiencies. The client had already chosen SuccessFactors as the technology to be rolled out to five regions and asked the SBE team for help in establishing these processes and implementing a supporting talent management system.

The Solution

We provided program management, change management, and training for the global implementation. We developed a comprehensive change management and training strategy combining traditional approaches (such as Instructor-led training) and innovative lean learning (such as short videos and simulations) to prepare the client for adopting the new technology. The team’s program and change management included process and system design for performance and compensation management, testing management, stakeholder alignment issues, and communications across the organization. We were able to leverage our expertise with human capital in combination with program and change management to deliver a full service solution for the client.

The Impact

The project finished on schedule and $750,000 under budget despite a corporate downsizing effort that impacted core team members on the client side. We delivered a change management strategy as well as lean learning that will be leveraged by the client well into the future during each annual cycle. The new process we implemented saved managers on average 45 minutes per performance review and employees 30 minutes per performance review totaling days of productivity gained across all 5,000 employees.
